Day In The Life

SCENE ONE:

Morning, inside The Aisles.

[ Mark is at his desk while

Brian is sat facing him. ]

MARK: I just brought you in

to tell you I think you're

doing a great job.

Always stay on task and

being an example. 

BRIAN: Thank you.  I heard

they're putting in Salons in

every Aisles next year.  

MARK: That's true.  Acer will

have some part in it too.  Not

sure the details yet.  

BRIAN: Must be excited.  I wish

I was at the level that you two

are.

MARK: You will be.  One day.

[ A static like noise cuts into their

conversation. ]

BRIAN: What was that sound?

MARK: It just the voice systems

I talk to the manager through.

Although they normally don't

leave them on.

[ Meanwhile downstairs, Ricky

is overheard talking to his meat

assistant. ]

RICKY: Alright.  I need the time

off for an operation.

SCENE TWO:

Afternoon, at Amber & Dyminic's.

[ Dyminic appears in the kitchen.

Amber is sitting at the table, look-

ing through papers. ]

"Anything I can help with?"

AMBER: Just going over the list

one more time before I send

out the invitations.

DYMINIC: Did we get enough?

AMBER: There was extra.  I can't

believe some of my family won't

get into the double wedding.  

DYMINIC: I think it's creative but

if there's a problem, they can

always decline.

AMBER: Or we could just not

invite them at all.

DYMINIC: That works.  All that

matters to me is that I can

look into your eyes and tell

you how much I love you.

[ Amber finally stops & focuses

on her fiance staring at her. ]

"Come here."

[ They get closer with a kiss. ]

AMBER: Shoot.  I have to get

ready for work. We'll continue

this later.  I promise.

SCENE THREE:

Back at the store.

[ Mark sees a break at the meat

counter & takes the opportunity

to chat with Ricky. ]

"Hey, how's it going?"

[ Ricky looks up & gives a quick

smile.  Mark follows him into

the back prep room. ]

MARK: You seem to be acting

a bit differently lately.  And

you know me, I like to check

up on people.  

RICKY: I'm doing fine really.  I

just need to ask for a few weeks

off in about a month from now.

MARK: Not to pry but it's not

anything serious, right?

[ He leans in more, showing concern

& Ricky backs up a little. ]

RICKY: No no.  Very minor.  I'll

just need to take it easy after.

Trust me, if I could be back

sooner I would.

[ Ricky smiles again but Mark is still

questioning. ]

SCENE FOUR:

[ Amber is seen walking into the

store.  She sees Mark standing by

checkout & walks over to him. ]

"Afternoon."

MARK: Hey right on time.  I see

this wedding thing hasn't taken

over your life like it seems to

have done to Ski.  Groomzilla.

[ Mark starts to laugh. ]

AMBER: Are you kidding me? 

Work is the only time I don't

have to think about it.  It's

a relief.

[ They look around ironically at

their store full of customers.

Back of TA, Scott is 

walking into the back produce

area & nearly bumps into his

manager. ]

SCOTT: Hey.  Sorry about that.

[ She balances her tray & sets it

down on the counter.  Lifting off

the cover, Scott is in awe of what

he sees. ]

SCOTT: You made that?

LISA: I did.  Our produce.  It

bites.  No it's for a teenager's

birthday party.  The parents

want to focus on healthier

eating.

SCOTT: Sucks for the kid.

LISA: I know.  So is it too much?

Should I add anything to it?

SCOTT: You should probably

get rid of the candy fish.

Maybe you could cut them

out of melons instead.

LISA: That's a great idea.

Thanks Scott.

SCOTT: No problem.

SCENE FIVE:

Much later, Mark & Ski's.

[ Mark enters in through his garage

quietly expecting to surprise his

fiance.

He hears voices in the living room

& stops by the entrance. ]

JAI: If we want any chance of 

doing things, it will have to

be here.

TRAILYN: I know.  My mom would

freak out.

JAI: Not to mention your brother.

Well we can talk about it later.

Ski's just in the other room.

[ He pauses.  Mark composes himself

& walks in. ]

JAI: Oh hey Dad.

TRAILYN: Hi Mark.

[ Mark is stunned out of speech

as they wait. ]

JAI: Whats up?

MARK: Nothing.  Is Ski home?

JAI: He's in your room.

[ Mark leaves, not saying any-

thing else. ]

SCENE SIX:

Late night, The Aisles.

[ Things are calming down for

the night & Amber takes a few

minutes to step outside.

She removes her phone to

dial her voicemail. ]

"Sorry we haven't been able

to contact you through calls

but we needed to tell you

as soon as possible.

Unfortunately we are not able

to take both parties at the

same time.  I'm sorry for the

inconvenience but do call back

if you wish to schedule one

at a different time."

[ The call ends. ]

My Weakness

SCENE ONE:

Evening time, outside Jenni's.

[ Ski pulls up in his same-named

sports vehicle.  Coming to a halt-

-ing loud stop, Chais gets inside. ]

"Drive much?"

SKI: Get in.  Your brother caught you

in the backyard last night.  Since 

when did you start lying to me?

CHAIS: Since I turned 17 I don't 

have to tell you everything.

I mean, you're own ex 

boyfriend smokes and you

don't get on him.  

SKI: Exactly and he's struggling 

to quit.  I know you're only smoking

a few now but you will eventually

become addicted.   

CHAIS: I don't care.  Sometimes its

the only way I have to deal with

my stress.

SKI: Please.  You have it way easier

than a lot of people.  What are you

so stressed about?

CHAIS: You and Mark are always 

pressuring me.  I don't get into

school like Jai and I'm not as

smart.

SKI: We weren't trying to make

you feel bad.  We just want you

to do your best.

CHAIS: Yeah okay.  I'm going to Billy's.

[ Despite Ski calling him, Chais

continues to walk away. Leaving 

Ski standing in the driveway. ]


SCENE TWO: 
Later that night, at Hithe's.

[ Hithe & Little H are finishing up
dinner while Kristyn is sitting at the
kitchen island. ]

HITHE: Did Mairya find it in one of
her moods not to join us tonight?

[ Kristyn smiles a little. ]

KRISTYN: Oh she's coming.  Just had
to pick up a friend.  
LITTLE H: Yeah.  She wouldn't miss
your barbecue Dad.

[ H pats Hithe on his shoulder before
walking in the other direction. ]

HITHE: Cool.  I haven't seen Trailyn
in awhile.
KRISTYN: It's actually a guy friend.

[ She sort of whispers as Little H
comes by placing plates on the
table slowly.  Then the doorbell
rings. ]

LITTLE H: I'll get it.

[ Opening the door, H is shocked
to find Mairya & Caleb standing
in front of him. ]

MAIRYA: Go introduce yourself to
my mom.

[ After he leaves. ]

MAIRYA: Sorry I didn't tell you
that Caleb is back.  I just found
out he was coming a few days
ago.  It's okay, right?
LITTLE H: Yeah it's fine.  Go make
a plate.  I'll be in there in a second.

[ H stays frozen for a minute. Unable
to snap himself out of it as flashbacks 
of the back building incident start 
to run over & over in his mind. ]

SCENE THREE:
Meanwhile, at Mark & Ski's.

[ Mark & Ski are laying side by
side in the living room watching
a movie. ]

MARK: You haven't said but two
words to me since I got home.

Is something going on?

[ Ski sits up sighing, facing Mark. ]

SKI: Yeah it's Chais.  I didn't want
to bring this up but it's getting 
worse.
He won't listen to anything I
tell him now.  
MARK: I should knock him in
his hard head.
SKI: I doubt that will solve any-
thing.  We need to think a little
harder about this.

MARK: He's always been that way
with me.  He'll purposely do the
opposite of what I say just to
get me going.
SKI: If we take away his license, he'll
just drive without it.  If we try and
ground him here, he'll just walk
out on us.  
MARK: That's fine then.

SKI: What do you mean?
MARK: We'll just make it crystal
clear.  Next time that he decides
to break a rule.  He can stay gone.
That way there's no surprises.

SKI: I don't know if I agree.

[ He lays back down near Mark,
ending their conversation. ]

[ Mairya, Caleb, Kristyn, Little H
& Hithe are all eating at the table. ]

MAIRYA: What do you think of the
ribs?  I know they're your favorite.
It's Hithe's own sauce.

[ She smiles at Caleb, trying to engage
him in the conversation. ]

CALEB: It's good.  Everything is.
Thanks for inviting me.
HITHE: No problem.  So you just
got back into town?

MAIRYA: Yeah. His parents made
him move away for awhile. 

[ Little H stays silent while Mairya
continues. ]

KRISTYN: We can all tell that you're
happy to see him.
LITTLE H: I'll be right back.  Excuse
me.

[ H walks out into the living room
& Hithe follows him. ]

HITHE: What is going on with you?
You've been silent ever since they
got here.
LITTLE H: It's nothing.  I just need a
minute.  
HITHE: Why are you shaking then?
Wait a minute.  Is this the guy from
the school?

[ H just shakes his head, not looking
to see Hithe's reaction. ]


SCENE FIVE:
Middle of the night, TA.

[ Ski is sitting in his office looking
at the securities cameras when
Joh walks inside. ]

SKI: Hey.  Is everyone here?

JOH: Yeah Stuu was a little late
but he called.
SKI: Okay cool.

[ Joh sits down across from Ski. ]

SKI: You will never guess what
I found on here.

[ Johs gets up, standing next to him. ]

SKI: Just watch this.

[ Ski unpauses the screen as Charles is
seen sneaking up behind someone.  They talk
for awhile & then he starts shoving the
unknown into the freezer.

A minute later, Syria appears.  Yelling
at Charles.  Joh starts to laugh. ]

SKI: This is serious.  I think that was
the Mirror bakery manager.  You know
the policy about employee contact.
JOH: This is for sure a violation.
What are you going to do?

SKI: I have no choice but to report it.

[ Joh leaves & Ski starts dialing on
his phone. ]


SCENE SIX:

[ Hithe walks right up to Caleb
with Little H at a safe distance
behind. ]

HITHE: We need to talk.

[ Caleb follows Hithe into the 
living room. ]

HITHE: After what you've done you
have some nerve just showing
up here.  You forced yourself
onto my son.  

CALEB: No direspect but I don't
think you have the whole story.
H was enticing and pretty much
asking to.

[ Mairya walks in & Caleb looks
back at Little H. ]

CALEB: I realize how this may seem
but I'm telling you it wasn't one-
sided.  Maybe you don't know
your son very well but he liked
it.

[ Mairya just stares at him with a
disturb look on her face.  Hithe sits
back but before he knows what he
is doing has lunged at Caleb knocking
him to the ground. ]

KRISTYN: What the hell is going 
on out here?  Hithe!


LITTLE H: Dad, let him go!

Gone Crazy

SCENE 1:

Day before Thanksgiving.

[ Charles is waiting in the

living room & Sandie comes

down the steps. ]

CHARLES: You’re not dressed

for work, I thought your

suspension was over.

[ Sandie sits down, sipping

her coffee. ]

SANDIE: It is.  I’m just not

going back.

[ Charles nervously laughs. ]

CHARLES: Wait.  You’re serious.

Why?

SANDIE: Because I’m doing my

own thing now.  I have an appoint-

ment this afternoon to see about

a loan.

CHARLES: Isn’t that a little hasty?

SANDIE: No.  I raised that department.

Barely had any customers before

I made changes that your manager

was too busy to look into.

I have the experience to do it alone.

CHARLES: If that’s what you want

to do.  I won’t stop you.

[ He smiles at Sandie & they kiss. ]

SANDIE: And don’t worry about TA.

There’s no hard feelings.

SCENE 2:

At Tessa’s apartment.

[ LeeVigh is sitting on

the couch when Tessa

walks in the room. ]

TESSA: See, isn’t this better?

More peaceful. More privacy.

[ She sits down, placing her

hand on LeeVigh’s knee. ]

LEEVIGH: Hey, I never said

I didn’t like your place.  It’s

just that’s mines a lot closer

to work for us. 

TESSA: That’s true but I think

there’s more to it.

LEEVIGH: What else?

TESSA: You’re always playing

the Dad role with your

roomates.  You can’t even

leave them for a weekend

without worrying.

LEEVIGH: So? I just care about

my friends.

TESSA: I know.  I’m not judging

you at all babe.  Anyway, what

are you going to wear to dinner

with my parent tomorrow night?

[ LeeVigh looks up quick. ]

TESSA: Oops.  Did I forget to

mention that?

SCENE 3:

Between TA and The Salon.

[ Charles is outside waiting

when Mark joins him on

the bench. ]

MARK: So where is Sandie?

CHARLES: Listen, I don’t know

how to break it to you so

I’ll just do it fast.  She isn’t

coming back, man.

MARK: What? Just because

of the two weeks.  That was

Jim’s recommendation.  Not

me.

CHARLES: Yeah, I understand

that.  It’s alright though.  I

mean you still have her

assistant. 

[ They stand up & Mark is

looking across the street. ]

MARK: Wait.  Isn’t that Sandie

over there checking

out that empty store?

CHARLES: Oh no.

MARK: Oh no what?

CHARLES: I gotta go. 

I’ll be back.

SCENE 4:

Thanksgiving afternoon.

[ Tessa, LeeVigh, her parents,

& little brother are sitting

around the table. ]

TESSA’sDAD: So you two work

together and stay around each

other most of the time.

Don’t you ever get sick

of her?

[ He points at Tessa & starts

to laugh jokingly. ]

LEEVIGH: I could never get

tired of your daughter.

TESSA’sDAD: Yeah.  How long

has it been?  A few months.

TESSA: Dad.  More like six.

TESSA’sMOM: Oh well.  And

you have your own place?

[ She looks at LeeVigh. ]

LEEVIGH: Kind of.

TESSA: Actually he lives with

two other guys.

[ Her Dad looks up, making

a weird face. ]

LEEVIGH: Friends.  Just good

friends Sir, I met in college.

[ Everyone continues to eat. ]

SCENE 5:

Day before, TA.

[ Charles joins Sandie across

the street. ]

 CHARLES: Well this doesn’t

seem like your cool with

TA?  What’s going on?

[ She ignores his question. ]

SANDIE: Hey babe.  This place

looks a lot bigger from the

inside.  And it already has

a lot of what I need.

CHARLES: Don’t you care

about the store?  You

couldn’t find a different

location.

SANDIE: I could but that would

defeat the whole entire purpose

of my moving on.

CHARLES: And what’s that?

SANDIE: When I get through with

this store, it’s going to be the

best bakery this town has ever

seen and I’m coming after them.

[ She angrily points at the TA

sign, while Charles stands there

in shock. ]

SCENE 6:

Thanksgiving evening.

[ After dinner, Tessa & LeeVigh

are waiting outside to start

Black Friday shopping. ]

LEEVIGH: Is it just me or was

your Dad on a negative kick

earlier?

TESSA: Don’t let it get to you.

It takes him a long time to

warm up to new people. 

LEEVIGH: That’s fine then

cuz we have all the time

in the world.

[ She smiles at him. ]

TESSA: Don’t let me forget

to get something for my

aunts.  Who did you wanna

shop for?

LEEVIGH: Me, myself, and I.

Merry Christmas to me.

[ He starts to laugh & Tessa

gives him a look. ]

TESSA: You’re silly.  It’s getting

colder out though.  Let’s

go inside.
