[ Jeszyca & Sunshine’s Home. ]
[ Jeszyca is sitting at the dining
room table drinking her morning
tea when Sunshine enters smiling,
settling in next to her. ]
SUNSHINE: Today’s the day.
JESZYCA: I can’t believe you’re
finally meeting my mom after
all these years.
SUNSHINE: I know. After refusing
to be a part of the ceremony, I’m
surprised she agreed to a visit.
JESZYCA: Right. She’s so stubborn
and set in her ways. Wouldn’t even
let me pick her up from the airport.
SUNSHINE: Wow. I take it today
will be a blast then.
[ She jokes as Jeszyca’s phone rings
& it’s Acer on the other line. ]
JESZYCA: Oh, that’s too bad.
No problem, don’t worry about
it.
SUNSHINE: What was that?
JESZYCA: Ace needs me to open
Kutz.
SUNSHINE: But your mom will be
here any minute.
JESZYCA: It’s fine. I’ll be
back in a bit.
[ She states, leaving Sunshine
alone at the table. ]
Scene Two:
[ At Monica & Kyle’s. ]
[ Kiilyn has his eyes shut. Resting on
the pull-out couch. Hearing Kyle
making noise in the kitchen, he
opens them.
Kyle turns around, noticing he’s
awake. ]
KYLE: Morning. How are you feeling?
KIILYN: Like crap. Still.
[ He sits up. ]
KIILYN: That tingling sensation had
me up all night. I couldn’t get
comfortable.
KYLE: I’ve heard those phantom
pains are a beast. Hopefully this
physical therapy can give you some
relief.
KIILYN: Between those and the
counseling sessions, that doesn’t leave
much time to prepare for my gigs.
KYLE: You just got out of the hosp-
ital, why not take some weekends
off?
KIILYN: I can’t. There already
scheduled and people are counting
on me to perform, especially Tori.
KYLE: She’s going through her own
recovery right now. I’m sure she
would more than understand.
KIILYN: I know. The pilot was a long
time friend of her family.
[ The conversation stalls, as the mood
turns sadly somber. ]
Scene Three:
[ Sunshine is lounging on her porch,
waiting for her mother-in-law's
arrival.
A black SUV with tinted windows
parks in the drive. She takes a breath,
walking up to meet her. ]
“Hello!”
[ Sunshine exclaims with excitement
that matches her name.
Jeszyca’s mother steps out looking
unusually formal for a plane ride. ]
“Hi.”
[ She almost coldly states. Sunshine
immediately feels the judgement in
her tone. ]
SUNSHINE: How was your flight?
PEARL NORIGAMI: Exhausting but it’s nice
to finally meet you.
SUNSHINE: You too. It’s getting a bit
breezy. Why don’t we go inside?
Let me help you with your bags.
PEARL NORIGAMI: That’s okay.
[ She abruptly grabs them trailing
Sunshine to the door. ]
Scene Four:
[ Amigos & Amigas Gym. ]
[ Later that afternoon, Kyle is
sitting in his office.
Viewing the floor, he sees two
familiar faces talking & lifting
at a weight station. ]
LARRIE: We haven’t had a night
out like that in a long time.
SKI: I know! Not since we both
worked at TA.
LARRIE: Do you ever hear from
any of our former workmates?
SKI: I hear from Weis pretty often.
Zain texts every once in a while.
No sign of Airynn or Joh though.
“Hey guys. Look whose back!”
LARRIE: Hey man.
[ Larrie & Kyle shake hands. ]
SKI: How is Kii doing?
[ Kyle sighs, sitting on a bench
next to him. ]
KYLE: He’s still struggling with
it. But you know Kii.
SKI: Yeah. He’ll never admit it.
KYLE: I just dropped him off at
therapy. We'll see how that goes.
I have to get back to the office
now. It was nice seeing you
again.
Scene Five:
[ Back At Jeszyca & Sunshine’s. ]
[ Lunch time, they are sitting at the table. ]
“What is this? It taste off.”
[ Mother Pearl questions after taking
a minuscule bite of her pasta. ]
JESZYCA: It’s fine. Just not beef.
SUNSHINE: Yes, I prefer to use turkey.
[ Pearl shakes her head. ]
PEARL NORIGAMI: I guess. But it doesn’t
even brown. Comes out too soft.
[ She drones on while Sunshine ponders
a means to relate.
A few minutes goes by. ]
SUNSHINE: How about we go on a walk
after lunch?
We could go to that park a few blocks
away.
JESZYCA: Sure, it’s nice enough out.
I’m running upstairs to get my jacket
quick.
[ She leaves. ]
PEARL NORIGAMI: Sara, where did
you say you were from again?
SUNSHINE: Berlin, Germany. And it’s
Sunshine.
PEARL NORIGAMI: Excuse me. That’s right!
Scene Six:
[ Jai arrives to pick up Kiilyn who
is sitting down on a bench, listening
to music. ]
JAI: How was that?
[ Kiilyn gets in, taking a deep breath. ]
KIILYN: I’m exhausted. And still in pain
from this morning.
JAI: Well maybe talking will help get
your mind off it. At least for awhile.
Is your counselor female or male?
[ Kiilyn rolls his eyes. ]
KIILYN: Don’t start! Turn right at
the stop sign.
JAI: Okay, why?
KIILYN: Because I’m not going to
the session. I need to practice
for this weekend.
Make sure I can still function
at the booth with the way my
arms been killing me.
JAI: That is the exact reason why
you should be taking a break.
What did you doctor say?
KIILYN: Never mind. Just drop me
off.
JAI: Fine.
Final Scene:
[ The Norigami/Walli Abode. ]
[ Middle of the night, Jeszyca awakens.
Quietly she gets out of bed & retreats
toward the kitchen to get a glass of
water.
On the way back, she peaks in on
her mother who was fast asleep in
the guest room. Now the bed lies
empty. ]
[ Grabbing her jacket by the front
door, she moves swiftly toward the
porch. Looking around, she takes
a jog around the block. ]
[ Ten minutes later, Jeszyca is standing
over the bed. Coming into the room in
a loud huff, Sunshine rolls over. ]
“What’s going on?”
“Did I hear the door?”
JESZYCA: It’s mom!
She’s gone!
